Early 20th century orientalist watercolour on paper by Aiveill, signed bottom right.

In art history, Orientalism is the imitation or depiction of aspects in the Eastern world. These depictions are usually done by writers, designers, and artists from the West. In particular, Orientalist painting, depicting more specifically "the Middle East", was one of the many specialisms of 19th-century academic art.

This is one example of three watercolour paintings which depict late 19th or early 20th century scenes from everyday life in the east.

Dimensions : 30cm x 36.5cm x 2.3cm.
