Piazza San Marco, The Doges Palace, Venice, School of Raoul Dufy from the 1950s by Mario Bonamici

€1,480.00

The Piazza San Marco and the Doge's Palace, Venice, oil on board, by Mario Bonamici. The painting is signed bottom right and titled to the back board. Presented in a custom gilt frame.

A charming and classic view of Venice and the Palais des Doges captured with remarkable fluidity and dynamism. The painting’s composition is dominated by the bustling square, the Piazza San Marco, where numerous figures, rendered in quick, expressive strokes, traverse the scene. On the left, an elegant, rose-tinted building with arched windows provides a sense of historical depth and architectural beauty. The background features iconic landmarks, sketched with a subtle hand, evoking a sense of distance and grandeur. The artist employs a delicate colour palette of pinks, blues, and purples, infusing the piece with a dreamlike, atmospheric quality. The sky, painted in swirling blues and whites, suggests movement and mirrors the energetic flow of the pedestrians below. This striking juxtaposition of architectural detail and impressionistic figures creates a vivid depiction of urban life, encapsulating the city’s vibrancy and charm with bold brushwork and an evocative use of colour.

Mario Bonamici was an artist born in Paris in 1912 and died in Lausanne in 2002. From a family of Italian painters and whose parents arrived in France in 1910, he was introduced to drawing and painting at a very early age. From the age of sixteen, he attended the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs and made his debut in the renowned Jarach and Chambry workshop as an illustrator. He frequented the world of fashion, theater and cinema. His brilliant pencil stroke was noticed and he devoted part of his professional life in France and Switzerland as a fashion designer in parallel with his career as a painter.
