Provençal Landscape. Olive Trees. 2nd Landscape to the Reverse.
Provençal Landscape. Olive Trees. 2nd Landscape to the Reverse.
French Mid 20th Century oil on board, fauvist view of olive trees in a landscape, probably near Nice in the South of France and the surrounding countryside, by Hyppolite Roger. To the reverse is another painting of a river winding through a landscape by the same artist. Signed bottom left. A wonderful, vibrant and colourful painting of a provencal landscape. Roger has used energetic colour and a great sense of perspective as the eye is taken through the image to the mountains beyond. Thickly applied paint and a host of colours give texture and great depth to this painting. The light is especially well painted, the distant hills are slightly moody under intermittent light rain whilst a patch of yellow field has caught the full majesty of the provencal sun in the foreground.
