Still life with flowers, Fauvist oil on canvas by Roger Worms. The painting is signed and dated bottom right and also titled, signed and with an exhibition label to the rear of the canvas.
This vibrant and colourful painting, reminiscent of the paintings of Matisse, captures a dynamic still life, dominated by a bouquet of bold blue flowers in a vivid turquoise vase. The blossoms, suffused with hints of yellow and white, exude an energetic and lively aura. Rich green leaves at the base further enhance the arrangement, adding depth and contrast. Behind the flowers, an abstract, geometric backdrop of angular shapes and lines in muted tones creates an intriguing setting, drawing the viewer’s eye into a blend of modernity and nature. The bold use of colour and confident brushstrokes convey a sense of movement and vitality, transforming a simple floral scene into a captivating narrative. The artist’s signature and the date, ‘76,’ subtly anchor this piece in its time, highlighting its timeless appeal and unique interpretation of a classic subject.
